50-Miles

The team exited the cave after a multi-day trip and reported they had surveyed enough new unexplored passage to reach the 50-Mile length!

An upper level in the No Cave for Old Men section of the cave discovers a beautiful lake area, well above Snowy River.

Fort Stanton Cave Study Project exploration teams were able to access the upper ends of previous exploration in 2024, thanks to a dry winter that allowed the Snowy River Passage to dry out sufficiently for travel on the delicate calcite surface. Thanks to several new private team members and supporters who are the owners of private property just to the west of the BLM NCA, our teams were able to obtain permission to continue explorations started in 2022. In 2024 we were able to explore and survey a southwestern extension of the Snowy River Passage that actually passed under the surface Little Creek over 100 feet above, and the main passage appears to continue beyond our current exploration in August, 2024. This "crossing" under the surface creek was very significant, geologically speaking, and this team's efforts yielded three pages of photos linked below.

The map just below will be updated as we process the new 3 miles of survey data.
