Download Page for Caver Quest

Version 7.0.0 (Rev. May 5, 2024)

There is now an even newer introduction video of a bat flying into the cave to the washtub room that incorporates October 2021 photogrammetry through the Entrance area: (press Esc or Spacebar to jump past the video).

Starting with the July, 2013, Version 6, Caver Quest is using a new Unity Player engine that allows PC, Mac or Linux installations. Please report any special issues, questions and comments to the developer.

Download Page (7.0.0): PC version

Download Page (7.0.0): Mac version

Download Page (7.0.0): Linux version

Runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and newer. Your PC may need a Directx 9 video driver and video card to run (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113). There is also a version that runs on the Mac OS-X, but you will need system permission for the newer Mac operating systems to run a program from an "unknown developer". Version 7.0.0 requires Mac OS 10.13.

We would appreciate assistance from Linux users in beta testing the most recent Linux versions. We will be working on a new Android Version that will need beta testing assistance. Please send requests to the developer.

Not a PC? You could also try downloading a Crossover TRIAL PC emulator which is available for Macs, Linux or ChromeOS. (It does not need a Windows installation.)

To run the program:

1. Double-click the Caver_Quest icon installed on your desktop or in your Start, All Programs list.
2. Choose the screen resolution you would like. Click on the "Windowed" box if you want the game to be in a PC window. The tab labeled "Input" does not work at present.
3. Click on Play.
4. Read the startup screen. Note the key commands for moving the avatar, and that the "Esc" key is how you exit the game. There are also new on-screen buttons to enable mouse-only control of the game. The "Esc" key will also give you the option to save your progress. C;ick on which player you’d like. The player will be controlled by the mouse, the WASD keys, or the arrow keys as an alternative. Then click on start a new game or load a saved game. If you know the password for unlimited access, you can enter that and then click on unlimited access. The password is obtained at the end of the game in Harmony Hall. It also unlocks access to Snowy River North.
5. After clicking on the game option, you’ll find yourself at the ramada by the entrance to Fort Stanton Cave, outside the fence. Note that the keys 1, 2, and 3 will switch the camera view to first-person, second-person, and third-person views. In first-person mode, the “Page Up”, “Page Down”, “O”, or “L” keys enable you to look up and down (a bit). The on-screen buttons called View A and View B perform similar functions.
6. You cannot enter the cave via the entrance until you pass the entrance exam. Go to the ramada and click (with your mouse) on exam button. Answers to the test are on the bulletin board at the end of the table.
7. After you pass the exam, you may click on the fence gate to open it, and enter the cave.
8. You’ll then find yourself in a cave passage. You will find a Roswell Teleportation Device (RTD) beyond the dripline. Click on the yellow sphere to activate it. Do this with every one you find, and you will be able to teleport back to that site from any other RTD. There are also small orange bat icons to click on for information. You can also click on the violet mapPad hanging from you left hip. It will open to a map showing your location.
9. Explore the cave. Try to get to the far south end of Snowy River and Harmony Hall and establish a series of active RTDs throughout the cave in in preparation for the upcoming expedition.
10. To quit, press the "Esc" key or click on the “Exit” on-screen button and choose whether you want to save your progress.
